What about the anime?
The Yu-Gi-Oh! anime show, as shown on Kids WB!, is based on a later part of the manga, starting around the end of volume 7. It skips the early parts, summarizing them in the first episode, "The Heart of the Cards." If you get the magizine Shonen Jump, you can get the whole story right from the start. You'll also see the origins of Yugi's Millennium Puzzle powers; the first appearance of Kaiba, Bakura, Shady and Pegasus; and many more important secerts and characters than you would just by watching the Kids WB! version of the anime.
Where are the cards?
The Yu-Gi-Oh! cards don't show up till later in the manga. The first card game story and the first appearance of Kaiba don't show up untill about issue 4 of the manga.
